Frequently Asked Questions

Our Products

Which filler metals do you carry?

We stock filler metals for all welding processes, being SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW. The types of materials we carry are Aluminum, Bronze Alloys, Chrome Moly, Duplex, Hard Facing, Mild Steel, Nickel Alloys, Stainless Steel, Titanium, and Zirconium.

Which brands do you carry?

We carry two brands of filler metals:

Oxford Alloys is our premium line, offering filler metals for all welding processes across ten material categories. The Oxford Alloys brand is known for keeping deep stock, especially in Stainless Steel and Nickel Alloys.

Sheffield Welding is our priced-to-win Mild Steel line for everyday welding and is backed by the Oxford Alloys distribution network. Sheffield is currently offered in TIG, MIG, and Flux Cored wire in the U.S.

Where can I purchase your products?

Oxford Alloys and Sheffield Welding products are sold through our network of authorized welding supply distributors across North America, Asia Pacific, and select international markets. Use our Find a Distributor tool to locate the distributor nearest you. If you are an end user without an existing distributor relationship, contact us and we will connect you with an authorized partner in your region.

Where can I find a Technical Data Sheet?

Technical Data Sheets (TDS) can be reached three ways:

On an item's detail page, click the Catalog Page link — that link is the product's TDS.

From the site's top navigation, open Document Center and choose Product Catalogs.

Hover over Customer Support in the navigation and choose Product Catalogs.

Where do I search for an actual material certification?

There are a few ways to get a product's Certified Material Test Report (CMTR):

CMTR Search page — enter the heat and lot number from the product label, packing list, or the order-processed email, and it returns the actual certification. No login required.

Order Processed email — the heat and lot numbers are formatted as clickable links that open each certification directly.

Printed copies — a physical CMTR ships with each product.

CMTR Library — if you have a website login, it stores every certification that branch's location has purchased.

Does Oxford Alloys hold a Quality Management System certification?

Yes. Oxford Alloys maintains a quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015.

Do you have a mobile app?

Yes. The Oxford Alloys mobile app is live and doesn't require a login. Scan the QR code on a product's packaging and the app immediately pulls up that product's CMTR, then saves it so you can access it again later without rescanning. The app also displays product information.

Orders

Track a shipment

When a shipment is prepared, its tracking number is automatically sent to the purchaser's email. You can also find it by logging into your Oxford Alloys account and selecting Track Shipments from the My Account menu. Each tracking number is linked to the carrier (UPS, FedEx, or LTL freight). If you need assistance with tracking, email or call us and we'll help you out.

Will Call pickups

Will Call pickups are available at all four Oxford Alloys locations (Baton Rouge, Houston, Las Vegas, and Singapore). Both distributors and end users can collect the order, since no pricing is included with any shipment.

Before placing a Will Call order, verify the material you need is in stock at the location you want to pick up from — call us, email us, or log into your Oxford Alloys account to check. When you place your order, specify Will Call and your pickup location.

Why is my order shipping from multiple locations?

By default, we ship your order from the closest warehouse to the ship-to address. When not all items are in stock there, we ship the rest from another Oxford Alloys warehouse, so your order can arrive in more than one shipment, each with its own tracking number. Because of this, an item that appears missing may simply have shipped separately from another location, or be on backorder. Before signing for a delivery, check the shipment against your order confirmation. If something is still unaccounted for, note the shortage on the delivery receipt before you sign, take photos of the packaging and contents, and contact us immediately.

How late can I place an order for same-day shipping?

We ship most orders the same day they're placed. As a general guide, orders placed by 2 PM local time at the shipping warehouse will typically ship that day, though the exact cutoff depends on the carrier's pickup schedule and the size of your order. Orders placed after the day's pickup ship the next business day. If you have an urgent order late in the day, call us — we'll do everything we can to get it out that day.

Is there an archive that stores my past CMTRs?

Yes. Once you have a website account, the CMTR Library under the My Account menu automatically archives every Certified Material Test Report (CMTR) you've purchased — so you can pull up any past certification without searching by heat and lot number each time. To set that up, register for an account. Without an account, you can still look up any CMTR on our public CMTR Search page using its heat and lot number, or click the link(s) in your Order Processed email.

How do I register for website access?

To register for website access, click Register in the header at oxfordalloys.com and complete the Create an account form. Our sales team reviews your request. If approved, we'll email you a confirmation with a temporary password, or send a separate email with a link to set your own password.

How do I view my past orders?

Log into your Oxford Alloys account and select Orders from the My Account menu. The Orders menu displays each order's number, PO number, date, and subtotal, plus the items and quantities ordered. You can search by any of these fields to find a specific order. To download certifications, open the separate CMTR Library menu.

Who is my sales account manager?

To find out who your specific sales account manager is, contact us and we will share their contact information with you. However, you're not limited to a single assigned contact — any member of the Oxford Alloys sales team can help with your account, whether that's answering questions, building a quote, or placing an order.

How do I update my shipping and billing addresses?

Shipping and billing addresses can't be updated from your My Account pages directly. To change either one, contact us with the new address and we'll make the update for you. The change is reflected in your My Account pages immediately, so your saved shipping and billing addresses stay current for ordering and checkout.

How do I switch between my company's locations?

If your company has multiple locations with Oxford Alloys accounts, use the Switch Locations option in the left navigation of My Account. Each location maintains its own customer number, profile, CMTR library, quotes, and order history. The location you're currently viewing is shown on the main Overview page in My Account. If you'd like access to another of your locations, or a new branch opens, contact us and we'll set you up.

How do I add a new user to my account?

Go to User Management in the left navigation of My Account. Click Request New Contact, then enter the their name, email, and assigned role (Administrator, Buyer, or Accounting). Oxford Alloys reviews the request typically within 1-2 business days. Once approved, the new user receives an email invitation to set up their login credentials.

What are the different user role types?

We support three user roles with different permissions:

Administrator: full access to account including user management, orders, invoices, and payments.

Buyer: order placement, order history, quotes, and CMTR library.

Accounting: invoices, statements, payment methods, ACH setup, and transaction history.

How do I change a user's role or remove their access?

To change a user's role or remove their access, contact us with the details and we'll make the update for you — these changes can't be made from My Account directly. As an administrator, you can see which role each person on your account holds and request access for new contacts, but any role change or removal is handled on our end so your account's permissions stay accurate and secure.

How do I request a quote or view open quotes?

To request a quote, call or email the Oxford Alloys sales team — sales@oxfordalloys.com — with the products, quantities, and any special requirements. The team will respond with pricing, availability, and lead time. The Quotes section of My Account is for viewing the active quotes we have already provided you — it shows quotes issued within the last 30 days, each with its quote date, item, and price.

How do I view my invoices and transaction history?

The Invoices section of My Account lists your open and paid invoices, and you can pay open invoices directly from there. Transaction History shows a running log of your account activity — invoices, payments, and returns (RMAs) — with the current status of each item, sorted by date.

How do I start a return?

To start a return, contact our sales team with the order number, products, quantities, and reason within 30 days of the invoice date. Special orders for non-standard items are non-returnable. Approved returns receive an RMA number. There is no restocking fee when material is undamaged and in original packaging. If the return is our error, we cover return shipping; otherwise the customer is responsible. Allow up to five business days to process the refund after we receive it.

How do I contact the accounting department?

Our accounting department handles invoicing, statements, payment application, and accounts receivable inquiries. Reach them by email at accounting@oxfordalloys.com.

What are your credit terms and how do I apply for credit?

Oxford Alloys offers credit terms for qualified distributor accounts; specific terms are set with our sales team based on your account. To apply, email sales@oxfordalloys.com to request a credit application sheet. Allow five business days after we receive your application for us to contact your references and complete the review. New accounts may begin on prepayment or credit card while the application is processed.
